Jonathan Adebanjo Adegbola

Dr.

Dr. Adebanjo Adegbola is a lecturer at the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (Nigeria). He obtained PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with a focus on pharmacokinetics and pharmacogenomics of antimalarial medicines and antiretroviral. He also obtained the fellowship of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP), Faculty of Clinical Pharmacy.

He was awarded TETfund for the purpose of training and development of academic staff which he utilised at the HIV pharmacology Research laboratory, University of Liverpool, UK in 2017. Dr. Adegbola contributes to the professional training and supervision of several pharmacy students

Research Interest

I have conducted studies on pharmacokinetic drug-drug interaction focusing on antimalarial medicines with other drugs for infectious and non-communicable diseases. I recently investigated the influence of pregnancy and host genetics on drug-drug interactions between antimalarial and antiretroviral drugs.

Ongoing research projects to address important knowledge gaps in malaria and HIV/AIDs are entrenched in the area of pharmacogenomics, parasite biology and endocrinology. The projects include;

  • Pharmacogenetics of Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies among Nigerian with uncomplicated malaria (PACT)
  • Surveillance of plasmodium resistance among the patients with uncomplicated malaria in Nigeria.
  • Causal Association between VITamin and AntiRetroviral plasma exposure (CAVITAR).
