Funmilola Fisusi is a Research Fellow in the Drug Research and Production Unit Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Her area of specialisation is Drug Delivery using Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology.
Education and Training
She obtained a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) degree in 2000 and a Master of Science (M.Sc. Pharmaceutics) degree in 2007, both from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. She subsequently obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Drug Delivery from UCL School of Pharmacy, University College London, United Kingdom in 2014. Following the completion of her doctoral studies, she undertook postdoctoral research within the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, Howard University, Washington DC, United States of America, between September 2016 to December 2018.
Research
Dr. Fisusi’s research interests include the application of Pharmaceutical Nanotechnology for efficient delivery of anti-infective agents, therapeutic molecules to brain and peripheral tumours and development of novel antimicrobial and antitumour peptides. Her current research activities are focused on the preparation and evaluation of multidrug loaded polymeric microparticles of anti-infective agents for application in combination drug therapy.
Grants and Awards
She received a National Merit Award of the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) Joint Venture University Scholarship Award in 1994 for undergraduate studies. In 2009, she secured an Academic Staff Training and Development Grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, (TETFund; formerly Education Trust Fund) Nigeria, for her doctoral studies. She also received a University College London (UCL) Graduate School Student Conference Fund (Travel grant) in 2013 to present her work at an international conference.
